Freeride Headed to the Olympics!

Freeride is going to the Olympics!

Today the IOC confirmed freeride for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps. Thirty years ago, IFSA was founded with the radical idea that this sport should be run by athletes, for athletes. Now we’re home to the largest junior freeride community in the world and we’re standing on the biggest stage freeride’s ever had. This moment is bigger than Olympic inclusion. It’s an opportunity to define what IFSA stands for:

Athletes first at our founding.
Athletes first today.
Athletes first in the future.

It hasn’t changed since day one. It’s not changing now.

What is changing is how many people are coming. In the last fifteen years, we’ve grown over 1,500%! Today more families are hearing about freeride because of this moment. More kids are going to show up for their first competition, maybe a little scared but also curious about this sport we all love. I want every one of them to have what our first athletes had: a welcoming community, a well-run event, great coaching & judging, and a mountain slope to shred their line.

That means growing the things that make freeride work. We’re already the only organization livestreaming junior and qualifier events all season. We want to reach more families and fans with even more livestreamed events. We want dual-panel judging at more competitions, so we can meet athlete demand at our most popular events. And we want to offer more events, in more locations, to reach more riders. None of that happens on its own.

Right now, somewhere in our community, is a rider who will stand at the top of the French Alps in 2030. One of our own will be at the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps.

Our job is to protect what makes this sport so special, and to develop the next generation of riders throughout the Americas.

If IFSA has meant something to you — as an athlete, a parent, a coach, or a fan — this is the moment to help us grow into what’s coming. Together, and with your help, we’ll go further: an Americas that heads to the Olympics as one.
